Green Schools Committee

Green-Schools is an environmental education programme run by An Taisce in partnership with local authorities. The programme promotes and recognises whole-school action for the environment and encourages students and staff to play an active role in making their school more sustainable.
At St. Mary’s College, our Green-Schools Committee is led by teachers Ms. Kealy and Ms. Quinn and supported by a dedicated group of students. The committee works on a range of environmental initiatives including recycling, energy conservation, water conservation and raising awareness of sustainable practices throughout the school community.
To date, St. Mary’s College has achievedtwo Green Flags: our Recycling Green Flag and our Energy Green Flag, which was awarded in May 2025.
We are now working towards achieving our Water Conservation Green Flag. As part of the preparation for this theme, students completed a Walk for Water and carried outwhole-school surveys in May 2026. These activities have helped to raise awareness of water use and will inform the actions we take as we work towards reducing water consumption across the school.
Alongside our current focus on water conservation, we continue to build on the work already completed in recycling and energy conservation. Our aim is to encourage practical, long-term changes that will help make St. Mary’s College a greener and more sustainable school.
