Senior Hockey match - Loreto Dalkey
Report by Transition Years Aisling Brennan and Clara McDonnell
On Wednesday our TYs had their first Senior schools hockey match. The whistle was blown and a few minutes in St Mary's conceded two short corners against Loreto. It wasn’t looking good until our marvelous goalkeeper Michelle Buggy worked alongside the formidable defense to help clear the ball out down to the forwards.
Our joint captains Sophie Weir and Isabelle Purcell worked incredibly well with each other and never gave up throughout the game. Jessica Burke up in the forward line had a shot on goal in the first half but unfortunately it went wide. Loreto continued their very strong attacking with a few shots on goal but Niamh O’Carroll made some nice interceptions stopping this play.
Deirdre Cronin made lovely tackles alongside Cara Cooke clearing the ball out of the danger zone. The defense worked well together but it just didn’t happen for us in the second half when Loreto punished the girls with two goals to finish the game off. At half time it was 0-0 until Loreto put up a strong second half against our girls coming out on top with a 2-0 win. Unfortunately the weather was miserable and it just didn’t happen today for the girls. But we go again next time!
