St. Mary’s College Naas v Holy Family Newbridge Junior Football Match 13/10/23

St. Mary’s Junior Gaelic football team played Holy Family Newbridge in Naas Gaa today and came out with a well deserved victory after showing incredible team work and skill throughout. The first half was a real scoring spree for Mary’s, with Cassie Mallon setting up a great early goal finished by Lexie Reddington which set the tone for the team. Mary’s flawless interplay and teamwork quickly led to points finished by Misha Magee, Lauren Kilbride and Lexi Reddington. Our defence was always first to the ball, making great interceptions and broke down many attacks from the opposition. More goals for Mary’s did not take long to come as our half forwards and midfielders won numerous kick outs, setting up the scores which were finished by Millie Lawlor and Lily Harney. Mary’s stayed strong in the backs, with Cassie Mallon, Aoife Keane and Orla O’Carroll making great steals and blocks. The opposition did not get near our goals as Reagan Shaw, Grace Coburn and Orla Schwer worked tirelessly in the full back line. Midfielders Emily Gallagher and Lily Harney continued to set up scores for Marys which kept the score board ticking over, ending the first half with a score of 4.13 to 1.0
Holy Family kicked off the second half with an early goal, but this did not rattle Mary’s as we replied with points from Misha Magee and Lexie Reddington. The opposition began to put pressure on Mary’s but these attacking attempts were blocked out by great plays from Cassie Mallon, Aoife Keane and Grace Coburn. Emily Gallagher found the back of the net twice while Lexi Reddington, Misha Magee and Anna Hynes continued to keep popping over points. Mary’s goalie, Mia Ungureanu, made some great saves and kick outs, helping our defence when the opposition began to attack. Holy Family got some late scores but it was Mary's day with a final score of 7.22 to 2.4. Mary’s teamwork and tireless efforts earned them a well deserved win with everyone getting game time. Well done girls!
